Tips for making the right choices:
-
The right contractor has good references!
Good, trackable references from actual, previous customers with names and phone numbers from the estimator is the most effective way to prevent a bad experience. Any weak link should be exposed. Repeat customers, particularly experienced remodel contractors, are the best form of reference.
-
The estimator should have extensive experience
specific to wood flooring including problem solving, and a good knowledge of materials and other options available that will best satisfy your specific needs.
-
Dustless?
Most contractors have sanding machines with modern vacuum systems; however, most jobs require demolition, sawing, and other construction related processes that create a substantial level of dust before the sanding process ever begins.
Point being: although having a conscientious contractor with due diligence regarding dust control is important, keep the “dustless” thing in reasonable perspective. Dust is inevitable, so references, and price are usually more important criteria.
